Then: 1990. About ten accounts, all in the mail.
Bank statements arrived in the mail. Insurance policies went in a folder. A checkbook showed which bills were being paid. Your family had somewhere to start.
Who to call. What to say. Where everything is. Done in about 25 minutes.
You talk. We organize. Your guided conversation becomes a personal, printable Brief your family can turn to.
From $49 one-time · 14-day money-back guarantee

The details only you know
The spare key. The insurance through work. The bill that pays itself.
You know these details because you live them. A Brief gives someone stepping in a place to find them.
“Which bank pays the mortgage?”
“Where is the original will?”
“Who should I call first?”
“What would you want me to know?”
Your life is organized. But could someone else find it?

Bank statements arrived in the mail. Insurance policies went in a folder. A checkbook showed which bills were being paid. Your family had somewhere to start.
The statements are paperless. The bills pay themselves. The insurance policy is buried in an email. You know where to look—but someone stepping in for you may not even know what to look for. Only 3 in 10 people say they could easily get into their spouse’s accounts.
One guided conversation brings the important details together: who to call, where to find your documents, what to do first, and what to say when they call.
Sources: NordPass, 2024 (average personal passwords); All About Cookies, 2024 (spouse access). The 1990 figure is an estimate of typical household accounts.
Your knowledge becomes their roadmap. Your passwords stay separate.
Your family may need to find the will. They may also need to keep the lights on, locate an insurance policy, or care for your pet.
Your Brief puts those practical instructions in one place. It works alongside your legal documents and does not replace them.

Compare the $49 and $79 Briefs →Why I built Resolved
My grandfather Ott sold Oldsmobiles on Kingshighway in St. Louis. Convertibles, parties, people—a heart the size of the showroom.
My grandfather Lyle was organized down to the dated cans of soup and painted garage floors. After his funeral, we found his plan waiting in his office. He wasn’t there anymore. His plan was.
I’ve started companies my whole life. Opened accounts, closed accounts, built things that make sense to me and would be a bird’s-nest fishing reel to anyone else. For years, my wife couldn’t unlock my phone. That’s why I built Resolved.

How you make your Brief
Start with the essential family roadmap, or go further with the Complete Brief.
Use your phone or computer. The Resolved Brief takes about 25 minutes. The Complete Brief goes deeper.
Review your personal Brief, print it, and let the people you trust know where to find it.
The sample includes a “Still to Gather” list for details that need a follow-up. Start with what you know, and see what is still missing.
A place on the shelf
Your Brief can be printed at home. Optional binder editions give it a lasting place among the things your family knows to look for.

A clean, personalized cover for your family's important details.

A leather cover made to hold the plan you've put together.
Optional physical editions are additional purchases. The $49 Resolved Brief and $79 Complete Brief prices do not include these binders. Personalized name shown is an example. Leather design shown is a sample.
What stays private
Your Brief names the bank. Your separate Key Password Book holds the account number. We never ask you to enter passwords or access codes into your Brief.
Questions about privacy? Read the answers →
The people to contact. The institutions you use. Where important documents are kept. The instructions you want to leave.
Included with every Brief. Your passwords and private access details stay in the physical book you keep separately.
We never ask for a line of it, and we never hold it.

Inside the Complete Brief
Your child’s first steps. A wedding video. The sound of your mother’s laugh. Some of the things your family would treasure most may be saved on a phone or in an account only you know how to find.
Leave them a way to find those memories. Use your Complete Brief to record where your photos and videos are saved, where backups are kept, and whom to contact for help. Keep passwords and private access details in your separate Key Password Book.
There is room for the memories that are not on a screen, too: family recipes, the stories behind heirlooms, and words you want your children to have.

PRIVACY AND SAFETY
We built Resolved so there's nothing worth stealing in it. Your Brief holds the map: who to call, which bank you use, where the will is kept. It never holds the keys. We never ask for a password, an account number, a PIN, a safe combination or your Social Security number. Those go in your Key Password Book, and we never ask for a line of it and never hold it.
They'd learn that your will is in the filing cabinet and which bank you use. They couldn't open the cabinet or get into the bank. The Brief is a map to a house they still can't walk into. That's not luck. It's the reason the Brief is built the way it is.
Passwords. Account numbers. PINs. Safe and alarm codes. Your phone passcode. Your Social Security number. Where your Key Password Book is kept. If a question ever seems to head that way, it's a mistake on our part. Tell us and we'll fix it.
You, and whoever you choose to show. Your family doesn't get a copy from us. They get one because you print it or share it and tell them where it is. If you buy a Brief for someone else, you don't see their answers unless they show you.
No, never. Resolved makes money one way: families buy a Brief. We use a few service providers to take payment, store your answers and send your emails, and they work for us under contract. Your card number goes to our payment processor, not to us.
There's no password at all. When you come back, we email you a one-time code. It expires, and a used link can't be used again.
They're kept while your Brief is live, so you can come back, change something and print a fresh copy. If your paid year ends without Stay Resolved, we hold them for 90 days in case you change your mind, then delete them. Want them gone sooner? Email support@getresolvedtoday.com and we'll delete them.
Resolved is a small company in Grapevine, Texas, started by JB Bouck. JB is the author of Fooled: Inside the World of Scams and How to Fight Back and the founder of The Scam Hotline, which teaches families about the scams going around right now so they can spot them before anyone gets hurt. He built Resolved the same way: to hold nothing a scammer could use. You can reach him at support@getresolvedtoday.com.
EVERYTHING ELSE
Both Briefs come with a 14-day money-back guarantee. If we didn’t help you better prepare your family to handle your affairs, let us know within 14 days of purchase and we’ll give you your money back. No questions asked.
A will and the Brief serve different purposes. The Brief organizes the details around your legal documents: where they are, whom to call, and the practical information someone would need to step in. It does not create legal authority or replace your attorney.
That is a good starting point, but life does not always unfold in the order we expect. Your spouse may pass away before you, face an illness, or be affected by the same emergency. Even when they are able to step in, having the details written down can ease the burden during a difficult time.
Your Brief gives your spouse—and another trusted person—a clear place to start, so the plan does not depend on either of you being there to explain it.
The experience is a guided conversation on your phone or computer. The result is a Brief you can print, so your family can have a paper copy when they need it.
You can start with what you know. The sample shows how unrecorded details and open items can be made visible, rather than quietly forgotten.
No. You do not have to be older to have people depending on you—or memories worth protecting. At 30, you may already have a phone full of family photos, accounts only you know about, and bills someone else would need to handle.
An accident, a sudden illness, or an unexpected death can leave loved ones needing those details sooner than anyone imagined. Leaving instructions now gives them a place to start: where to find your accounts, where your photos and videos are saved, and where you keep the separate Key Password Book.
Yes. You can leave a clear record of where they are saved—on a phone, in an online account, on a computer, or in a backup—and the steps you have arranged for a trusted person to seek access. That gives your family a starting point for finding the memories you want them to keep.
Resolved does not unlock devices or recover files. Access depends on the device or service and the arrangements you make. Keep passwords and recovery details in your separate Key Password Book, not in the Brief.
Yes. You can sit with a parent while they have the conversation. Let their answers lead, and help them decide which trusted person should know where to find their Brief.
No. The Brief records pointers and instructions. Passwords, PINs, account numbers, and private access details belong in the separate physical Key Password Book. Do not enter them into the Brief.
